ONCE YOU CHECKOUT CHROMEBOOK

Below are FAQs that will help you and your student with their new district-owned device.

Q:  Is my chromebook charged?
A:  It should have enough charge to get started, but we recommend you plug-in and charge it for a good 1-2 hours before you open and turn it on.

Q:  How does your student login and what is their password?
A:  Your student will use their school-issued Google email account to login to their chromebook.  They should know their username and password, but if they don't, (or they are brand new) they can go to this form and ask for a password and/or a reset:

Student Password Reset Form for District-Provided Google Email

Remember, their username should look like this:
firstname+firstinitiallastname+last2digitsoflunchnumber@bsin.k12.nm.us

Q:  How do I connect to my home wifi internet?
A:  When you open and start up your chromebook, it should ask you to connect to a network.  At that point you can choose your home wifi internet to connect.  If it doesn't ask you to choose a network, you can click on the tray icons on the bottom right of your screen and choose a wifi connection there to connect to.

Q:  How do I find resources to learn how to use this device?
A:  To start, you can browse the Google Chromebook How-To website located at:

https://www.google.com/chromebook/howto/

Q:  How do I clean and disinfect this chromebook?
A:  Click this below link for a great article on keeping your device clean and sanitized at home:

https://chromeunboxed.com/5-steps-how-to-clean-disinfect-chromebook-prevent-coronavirus-spread-covid19/

Q:  Is this chromebook my child received filtered for appropriate internet content automatically?
A:  Yes, each chromebook we checked out has internet filtering in place automatically to safeguard students and comply with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Q:  What happens if we dis-enroll from Bloomfield Schools and transfer out?
A:  You are required to turn it back in to the school.  To do so, please make sure you get it checked back in to the following people by arranging a date/time to turn in:

Q:  Is this the same chromebook that will be checked out to me next year in August 2021?
A:  Yes.  Your student will receive the same chromebook they had before.  PLEASE take extremely good care of your device.  You will be responsible if you need a replacement for any reason, including if we notice it wasn't taken care of properly.

Q:  When do I have to check my chromebook back into the school?
A:  You will check in your chromebook at the end of the academic year, in May 2021.  We will provide more details as we get closer to that date.
