Substitute Teachers

Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching with Bloomfield Schools. Substitute teachers are a valuable component of our team. Subs work on an as needed basis which depends on available assignments. This allows you to have a flexible schedule and be part of a district that works to provide a quality learning community focused on the unique needs and goals of our students.

The following are steps you must take to meet the licensing requirements of the New Mexico Public Education Department and Bloomfield School District's specifications. The minimum requirements to substitute teach are, be at least 18 years of age to work with K-8 and 21 years of age to work with grades 9-12.

Step 1

Complete an application online at www.bsin.k12.nm.us. Once an online application is completed, you will be contacted by Human Resources as positions become available.

Step 2

Provide a current NM Substitute Teacher License or a valid NM Educator license. If you do not have a current NM Substitute license, you can apply online at https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/  The fee is $50.00, you will need a debit or credit card for this transaction. Once on the home page for the New Mexico Public Education Department, click on “Licensure” on the tab near top of the page, then register for the licensure portal as first time license applicant. Once you are registered, you will apply for the K-12 substitute teaching license under support staff. You will reach a point when you will be prompted for a background check and Superintendent Verification Form, at this point, you will need to contact Human Recourses to make an appointment to complete your background check and schedule fingerprinting. Please note that a debit or credit card is required to pay the $59.00 fee for the background check.

Each school has specific times and minimum requirements of observing, therefore, please call and schedule a time to observe. All substitutes are required to observe in each school where they want to substitute teach.
