The Bloomfield District Preschool staff holds Child Find Screenings
several times each school year.
What is Child Find Screening?
Screening is a free check of a child's developmental areas, including large muscle development, eye-hand coordination (fine motor skills), communication, concepts, personal-social skills, self-help skills, vision, hearing, height, and weight.~ The purpose of the screen is to identify any factors that may interfere with a child's learning, growth, and development.
During screening, children may stack small blocks, cut with scissors, draw, count, name colors, name objects in pictures, jump, and have fun!~ Parents will fill out paperwork about the child's developmental history and health history. Staff members will also ask parents about the child's social skill development and talk with you about any concerns you have.
The Bloomfield Preschool Team includes Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Preschool Special Ed. Teachers, Preschool Educational Assistants, a School Social Worker, an Educational Diagnostician, School Nurses and Health Assistants,an Early Childhood Resource Teacher/Evaluator, and the BECC Principal.
Who May Come to Screening?
Any child who is three or four years old and lives in the Bloomfield School District,
including the Blanco School attendance area.
What Happens After Screening?
The Preschool Student Assistance Team (SAT) meets on the Monday following screenings. The SAT reviews the child's file, including scores from the screening,
developmental history, and any parent concerns about the child.
The SAT will determine one of the following:
**The child showed some areas of concern and the team recommends more testing
to determine if there is a developmental delay.
**The child appears to be typically developing and there are no concerns at this time.
**The child shows some risk factors for possible difficulty in the school setting and
might benefit from intervention.
You will receive a letter from the Child Find staff to let you know the results.
If your child does not need further testing, the SAT may send you some ideas of things that you can work on at home.
If you have concerns about your child's development
and you would like to schedule a screening,
