Title VII Indian Education Formula Grant

Title VII Indian Education Formula Grant provides services for the special educational and cultural need of Native American students in all grades.

Reading, Math and Writing proficiency for Native American students are the main goals of the program.

The Parent Advisory Council includes Native American parents/guardians who have children attending Bloomfield schools, Native American high school students, and teachers.

The funding the district receives for this program is used for salaries for educational assistants, partial salaries for a certified Native American social worker and a certified secondary Navajo Language/culture teacher.  Title VII Indian Education funding also supports the NM MESA program in the district.

NM MESA Inc., a non-profit organization, is part of a national initiative promoting educational enrichment for pre-college students from historically under-represented ethic groups.  NM MESA prepares these students for college majors in mathematics, engineering, science and related fields.  NM MESA activities include tutoring, independent study, competitions, academic, university and career counseling, field trips, leadership workshops, summer enrichments and incentive awards.

Bloomfield Schools has a NM MESA program at Mesa Alta Junior High, grades 7 and 8 and at Bloomfield High School, grades 9 though 12.  There are four NM MESA advisors.
